Dear Friends,

We invite you, our global family, to experience a special Easter talk, entitled, “The Week That Changed The World” by bible scholar, Madelon Maupin, at Third Church of Christ, Scientist, in New York City. Our special Easter talk will take place on Friday, March 30th, Join us for festive organ music at 6:45pm, (NSW Australia this is 9:45 a.m Saturday) followed by musical performers at 7:00pm (10.00 a.m) Madelon’s talk will begin at 7:30pm. (Australia 10.30 a.m)

Is a 2000+ year old story relevant to an age of nuclear threats and nation-state saber rattling? How did Christ Jesus challenge the prejudices of his time to forever alter the freedom of mankind? Christ Jesus declared, “I came not to send peace, but a sword” (Matt. 10:34). This man of unspeakable love that knew no gender, age, racial or ethnic biases was nonetheless ready to bring a sword to whatever would limit, imprison or undermine anyone. Our special Easter talk given by Madelon Maupin will delve into this remarkable story and its place in our lives today.

In her capacity as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, Beth has been invited to lecture around the world, talking with audiences in such diverse situations as the hallowed halls of London to the inmates in provincial prisons in Africa and Asia. All receive the same message of divine love and healing.

But it is through her practice of Christian Science healing that the words and ideas she shares in her talks are proven true. Beth says, “that if an idea is true, it is universal, impersonal and provable. Spiritual healing as recorded in the Bible is as available today as it was then. And the understanding Christian Science brings to us all, makes that healing accessible to everyone, everywhere, always to bring help and healing to our daily life.”

Demystifying spiritual healing

This is a lecture full of heart and practical application.  Through analogies and healing examples, in ‘Demystifying Spiritual Healing’ we discover where genuine security in our lives really comes from.  The knowledge that there is a divine Principle underlying our lives that, when relied on, consistently brings peace and goodness to our lives, has been known and proved for centuries.  We see that, by looking to God, Spirit, instead of materiality, the people in the Bible found reliable peace, healing and solutions to their everyday needs.  And the discovery of the Science of Christ, by Mary Baker Eddy, shows how we too can experience this same peace, security and healing, in our lives.  It brings us to the realization that we can no more run out of the good that we need than we can run out of God’s love for us.

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ashland, Oregon invites you to a free Web Lecture with Beth Packer, CS, from Berry, New South Wales, Australia.

Heaven: It’s not only real, it’s here   Leave a comment

Live audio chat with Mark Swinney, C.S.B.

In this inspiring chat, Mark explores two major themes about heaven. The first is the encouragement people find from near-death experiences and the abundance of books on the market today chronicling accounts of people having “died” only to “come back” and talk about their perception of heaven. The second is about heaven itself: What is the nature of heaven? And is it something that can be experienced here and now by any one of us?

Mark answers questions about how near-death experiences can make “the afterlife” seem so much better and happier than life on earth; whether these so-called near-death experiences really show life beyond death or whether they are just a state of consciousness; if we can know what actually happens after we pass on; whether anyone experiences hell after death; how we can all know we deserve to “live in heaven” right now; and what we can do to wake up and feel the present reality of heaven right here with us.

mary-bothwellFrom childhood, Mary Bothwell has pursued a quest to understand the universe.

Mary earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Principia College and an MBA from UCLA. She was employed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for 34 years. During her time at JPL, she participated in and managed the development of technology and scientific instrumentation for earth, planetary, and astrophysics missions, earning NASA’s Exceptional Service Medal for her work on an experiment which flew on an early space shuttle mission.

Now, in her work as a Christian Science practitioner, Mary prays with people of many faiths to achieve healing through prayer as taught by Christ Jesus and described by Mary Baker Eddy in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

Practising Christian Healing, A Lecture by Mary Alice Rose   Leave a comment

Practising Christian Healing

What do you think of when you hear the word Christianity? For some today, Christianity may have negative connotations, or perhaps provoke something other than an entirely positive response. But the Christianity I know—the Christianity I understand that Christ Jesus taught—is a vital, crucial agent for healing in the world.

My heart yearns for people to know what Christianity truly means: To me, it’s so about love. And there is no better example in human history of genuine, unconditional love—and its healing effect—than Christ Jesus’ own life. The love he taught and demonstrated actually transformed lives—so it must have been more than mere sympathy or kindness. It must have been the inspiration of divine Love, God, that enabled him to embrace each individual as the beloved child of God.

Living Christianity is about how we can do the same—how Jesus himself expected us to do the same. He taught that those who followed him by living and loving according to his teachings could heal as he did. And he left us with the promise that spiritual healing is possible for everyone to experience and practice.

At the heart of this healing is love—the true vision of our neighbor which flows from God, Love itself. In this lecture, I’ll share how this love impels us to go beyond our preconceived notions and discover more of each individual’s God-derived nature in order to help others. I’ll also discuss some other ideas basic to Christian Science—which is founded on Jesus’ words and works—that allow any of us to heal and be healed.

My hope is that you’ll be able to walk away from this lecture with the essence of true Christianity in your own heart: love that reforms, transforms, and heals.

Mary Alice tells people that the answer to the question of how she started studying Christian Science is not that interesting: she grew up in it. The more interesting question is why she stays with it, and she loves exploring the answer to that compelling question with others.
Mary Alice’s interest in science and technology led to a 20-year career in different areas of applied physical science. Through those years, her love for God permeated every aspect of her daily work. Whether supporting research by tornado chasers as a meteorologist at the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Oklahoma, making live broadcasts during severe weather outbreaks on NOAA Weather Radio, troubleshooting operational software at sea as an engineer and researcher in underwater acoustics, or co-managing a division of 140 engineers and scientists in development of the ground system for the Hubble Space Telescope, prayer was her constant guiding and motivating force.

As interesting as her career was, Mary Alice found that she wanted more time to focus on her most rewarding scientific endeavor: exploring her relationship with God. So, in 2002, Mary Alice made the transition from manager, engineer, and earth scientist to the full-time ministry as a Christian Science practitioner, where divine guidance continues to be her mainstay as she helps people every day in praying about such challenges as careers, finances, health, and relationships. She is also an authorized teacher of this Science and has had a number of articles published in the Christian Science periodicals.
