Gratitude for a Quick Healing   1 comment

One morning after breakfast I suddenly felt extremely unwell and was in a lot of pain.  I was able to sit down quietly on the bed and I sent a text message to a Christian Science practitioner asking for prayerful support.

Immediately the practitioner began sending back affirmations of divine Truth.

I wanted to respond with my own text messages about the material condition and why I might be having this problem, but I stopped myself and I thought, ‘No, I will send affirmations of divine Truth as well’.  I reversed every material thought I had about the situation and sent only spiritual statements to the practitioner.

After ten or maybe fifteen minutes the pain had gone away, however, I still felt fearful, so I asked the practitioner if she would pray about that as well.

For my own part, I decided that I would read Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy.  On page 3 I found this statement:

‘If we regard good as more natural than evil, and spiritual understanding – the true knowledge of God – as imparting the only power to heal the sick and the sinner, we shall demonstrate in our lives the power of Truth and Love’.

This helped to dissolve the fear. Three weeks later I woke up in the middle of the night with the same pain.  I had a printout of the Christian Science Bible Lesson near me on the bed, so I sat up and read through all the citations from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.  They talked about God’s power and as I read them, I affirmed that God’s power was the only power in my situation.

When I got to the end of the citations the pain had gone and I went back to sleep. That was the end of the matter.

I am very grateful for this healing, for Christian Science, and for Christian Science practitioners.

A member of the Christian Science community in Canberra was recently interviewed for a Sentinel Watch podcast titled Listening to God. From this was taken a Daily Lift titled I Am Not a Dreamer. Listen to both these podcasts here.

How do you listen to God? And what can you expect to hear when you do? This week’s guest shares ideas from her own journey of learning how to listen—and the healings that have resulted.

My Prayer   1 comment

My prayer, some daily good to do
To Thine, for Thee;
An offering pure of Love, whereto
God leadeth me.

This is the final verse of a poem by Mary Baker Eddy, Christ My Refuge, also included in the Christian Science Hymnal (254-257)

A member of the Canberra Christian Science community had this article, Immortality Glimpsed in Dog’s Healing, published in the October 22 issue of the Christian Science Journal. Click here to listen to, or read, the full story.

Reggie, an elderly dog we adopted, was a member of our family until last year. We loved him dearly and he lived with us long past the life expectancy of a dog of his breed.

Gradually last year I noticed that he was slowing down and sleeping much of the time. It was starting to feel as if Reggie might be about to move on.

One Saturday morning he was in a long, deep sleep. He couldn’t be roused, and he had lost control of his bodily functions.

I’ve been a Christian Scientist all my life and it is natural for me to turn to God in prayer when I need answers, so I sat on the floor beside his bed and turned to God. “Tell me how to think about this,” I asked. Continue reading
